Marxists! Who would have thought?! But here they are trampling through our streets, destroying our monuments and questioning the foundational pillars of our political edifice. If there was ever a need for a comeback player/ideology of the year, it would be for Marxism and its Marxist adherents! With the fall of the USSR and the exposure of its stagnant, corrupt economy, its secret police which stifled dissent and the human spirit, one would think as Ronald Reagan stated, Marxism would be thrown forever into the dustbin of history. When the history of the 20th century is retold, the collective heads of a class, people, or nation would wonder how such an ideology could grab hold of a people? On the surface, Marxism holds the grand vision of material equality, and the wherewithal to explain all inequalities within the lens of the class struggle. By 1989, 1990, and 1991 such assertions seemed absurd and laughable. But as memories of the past fade and a new generation or two comes to the forefront, these stale and destructive concepts are not presented as pernicious or totalitarian but as fresh and untried by our modern day corruptors of the youth. Pushed by schools and institutions of higher learning, Marxism is presented as just, meaningful and a remedy of society’s ills. Glossed over and ignored are the colossal human and physical damage caused by communist regimes. The number of those murdered by Marxist states numbers at least 100 million. Not to mention famines, the substitution of propaganda for education and the grinding down of the human spirit. From Stalin’s show trials, to Mao’s Cultural Revolution, the goal of social conformity and total control of the population has been the objective of the movement’s body politic. But who would want to relive this gruesome tale? The number of nihilistic Americans is growing. At universities, opponents of this orthodoxy are shouted down, threatened with bodily harm or not even allowed to enter the hallowed halls of places of higher learning for fear of putting a spark of inquiry or doubt in the minds of the Marxist inculcated youth. In the streets, disillusioned young people wander the urban landscape in the form of the Orwellian named Antifa, seeking out opponents to menace and harass. All the while the symbols and monuments of America’s greatness face destruction, if in the path of the Antifa hoodlums. The defenders of the social fabric, constitutional order and historical memory recoil and turn away in fear of retribution from the anachronistic Marxist marauders. And here we wait wondering, what is our fate? According to the Marxists their historical hour is afoot.
