Marxist Morality: A World Turned Upside Down

Oh those Marxists!  They have a penchant for turning morality upside down and taking the onus of responsibility away from the evildoers and giving it to their perceived “class”enemies, no matter the context.  In the Marxist worldview, there are two groups, the oppressed who have little power, which include the poor, people of color, the third world amongst others and the second group who are the oppressors who have a preponderance of power which includes, the West, the developed world and the capitalist countries amongst others.  But how are such concepts applied, meaning what are the historical examples of this? Weaving our way through the annals of 20th century history, we find the communist Khmer Rouge coming to power in Cambodia at the conclusion of the Vietnam War in 1975.  The Khmer Rouge, led by the fanatical Marxist Pol Pot were determined to create an agrarian revolutionary Maoist society.  Part of this plan had been concocted decades before in university circles in France.  For the Khmer Rouge, part of the problem was the people’s lack of revolutionary fervor.  The cities  were filled with counterrevolutionary bourgeois influences, people who had been exposed to the odious pro western government of Lon Nol or those who had benefited from parasitic capitalism.  There needed to be a plan to deal with these potential foilers of the revolution and what better way to deal with these urban scoundrels than to do away with the cities.  Upon victory, Pol Pot and his lackeys ordered the urban areas to be emptied under the guise the US was planning a massive aerial assault on Phnom Penh (the capital) and the population, whether the sick, the elderly or the youth would be resettled in the countryside where they would be instilled with the revolutionary verve needed to build a new, correct communist society.  The cities were promptly emptied, the people resettled and from 1975-1979, starvation, torture and mass murder would convulse the countryside and prisons, leading to the deaths of millions.  A new term “the killing fields” would enter the lexicon describing the horror which took place.  Oddly enough, a few Leftists, namely Noam Chomsky, were far from convinced that these atrocities were a byproduct of a poisonous, murderous ideology.  Instead, Chomsky in a bizarre twist of the historical narrative argued one of the main causes of the Cambodian genocide was the US bombing campaign that took place in the Cambodian countryside during the Vietnam War from 1970-1975. The sheer ferocity of the US bombing campaign caused a maniacal shift in the Khmer Rouge from being mere revolutionaries to mass murderers.  The massive bombing took a toll on the psyche of these caretakers of the revolution and caused this violent reverberation.  Such a notion would fit Marxist ideology with the oppressive US, a developed, western capitalist country using its military power, through its bombing missions to be a source of mayhem leading to the Cambodian people’s woes.  According to the Left, if this aerial onslaught would not have taken place, the revolution in Cambodia would have had a different result.  Essentially, Pol Pot and his murderous communist clique are rescued from history by Western Leftists who are more concerned about preserving an ideology, a fanatical secular religion no doubt, rather than seeking the historical verdict on the Khmer Rouge and the communist revolution in Cambodia.  Nevertheless, quite a story created by Chomsky and his ilk!

A more recent example would be the outbreak of war in the Gaza Strip.  On 10-7 armed Hamas terrorists breached the barrier between Israel and Gaza and proceeded to murder in the most heinous way at least twelve hundred Israelis and assorted foreigners before taking away hundreds more as hostages.  Most rushed to condemn Hamas but as Israel’s armed response became apparent, the Marxist apologists and the inner workings of the radical mind came out into the open.  The attack against Israel was not a primitive act conducted by rampaging criminals.  On the contrary, as the Left revealed, the world needs to understand the rage of the Gazans.  You have to comprehend f0r years they have been in a virtual open air prison denied access to movement, locked into a crushing material and military disadvantage.  The Left continued, the attack against Israel was a step toward liberation and decolonization against an occupying power.  Such an attack is excused and acceptable, because the oppressed are responding to the oppressor.  Such a vicious attack only occurred because the Gazans were confronted by this continuous crushing weight of oppression.  The Marxists conclude incredulously, therefore, it is Israel and its supporters who are also responsible for these atrocities.  At issue is the Marxists excuse of atrocious behavior if one is a member of the oppressed group.  If you are a member of the  so-called oppressed, protective group, then the humanity of the so-called oppressor group is intrinsically denied because of their status in the power dynamic. In both examples of the Khmer Rouge and the Gazans, the individual is not responsible because of their aggrieved status.  Individual agency is eclipsed and the so-called oppressor group is held in part to be responsible for the calamity. Shocking, irrational and unbelievable!  If this thinking and behavior is allowed and legitimized, what is in store in 2024?
